UPDATE: After this post was originally written, Facebook came up with a solution to create lists of friends. You can create several lists, based on your own personal criterias, and add your friends to different lists, which you then can send event or page invitations to. I would rather recommend using this solution provided by Facebook, so that you don’t send information which might not apply to all of your friends.
To create a list, go to your Account settings, choose Edit Friends and Create new list. After you’ve created new lists you have an option to filter friends based on list names when you’re inviting friends to events or pages.
The newly redesigned Facebook has led inviting members to an event/group/page to an even more complex process. Why can’t they just make a “select all” button? Initially I got tired of clicking several hundred times on all the pictures to invite people to my event, so I came up with this small piece of Javascript:
Go to your event/group/page, click invite people and then paste this snippet in the URL field of your browser.
Left-click the mouse in the URL field and hit Enter. Your invitations will not be sent yet, but all your friends will be selected. Click the “Invite” or “Send” button on the Facebook page to finally send the invites.

Actually it doesnt work. Although it does select all friends, when you hit ’send invites’ it will tell you they have been sent… if you then refresh the page to see how many ‘Awaiting reply’ people there are, the figure will not have increased from before.

It definitely seems like it works, because it selects all friends and says that invites have been sent, but when I ask me friends if they received the suggestion to join a fan page, they say no. FOR EVERYONE THAT THIS FAILS FOR…
you have to wait a bit for the action to go thru…it should work within a few hours, but i had an email i sent to a group before and it took 3 days! i imagine it all has to do with how taxed fbook is that moment.
for the record, i just invited 10,345 ppl to an event and this worked WONDERFULLY! the most on one account i added was just over 4900ppl.

i can see how it worked before but now facebook only brings up one page of nine friends at a time so you have to select them all then go to the next page to select the next nine. Facebook just recently redesigned this feature. Is there a NEW way around this??

It doesnt work….It only invites the first 9 people. Go to page 2 and they arent selected. My advice is add all of your friends to a group and then when you need to invite people to an event. Click on that group. They will be all added. It takes quite a while intiially to add everyone but after that it works like a charm.

If you click on your Bookmark’s toolbar, add a new bookmark and paste this script in there as the location of the bookmark, it will put a button there you can just click in the future to select everything.

If you update that code to be a link with the text as the href parameter, then people can right-click and bookmark it … they then just need to click the link in their bookmarks to reuse it!

I hope I’m wrong, but it seems FB has gotten wise to this little trick; it worked for me the last couple of times I wanted to invite all my friends, and now it doesn’t. It’s still possible to go to a “Friend List” you’ve created and “Select all,” but when you have over 1000 friends, that’s a pain.

You didn’t make this code specific enough, it does what is says though. It selects ALL friends, although certain friends can not get the message because they are already part of the group or whatever. It just says it couldn’t send to those people, but it would be cool if you could edit your code to make life a little easier.

B) I didn’t get any error messages
C) If you want the code to do something different, change it yourself- that is the beauty of open source; you can change it to do whatever you want it to do. You could even post your new code back as a reply, so that other people could use it.
Also, on a side note, you can just put the code as a bookmark up in your toolbar (on firefox)

it only works on Mozilla Firefox and Safari I believe from what I’ve seen… I tried it on internet explorer at my friends house and it didnt work… but on my pc with firefox and my friends mac with safari it worked wonderfully. People with IE can easily download firefox to get it to work

well, cool, but there’s not really a need for this, since as soon as you select a friend list in the invite-dialogue, there appears a “select all” button anyway which misses in the first place.
all you have to do is add every new friend to a friend list once.
i my case it makes more sense anyway, since inviting people to events like partrys or concerts i don’t want ans shouldn’t invite ALL of my freinds anyway, since a lot don’t come into question at all (like those live in other countries etc).

What a clever person, everyone loves a smart arse!
Is there a way to invite fans of a page (rather than members of a group) to an event created on the page?
Once you’ve solved that one, can you find a way to add one event to multiple pages (eg. 2 bands playing at the same event, both need it listed in their events but at the moment both have to create the event separately… kind of defeating the point a bit)

The newly redesigned friends invitation form is now split into individual page of 12 friends each. This script can only select one page at a time. Therefore, if you have 1200 firends, you have to run the script 120 times!
Is there a way to display the full list of friends in one page only (as it used to be not so long ago)?
In which case the script would still be useful. Or is there another sript possible allowing for the selection of all friends in all pages?

It worked, it worked, it worked! I filtered my friends first to include only my Denver friends. Thankfully, I had placed them in that list before Facebook took away the local networks. Then I placed the code in the URL. Now I can invite my Denver network to my event. Thank you so much,

I have a private profile on FB. My friend has a clothing business so I set up a “FAN PAGE” for her business. I’m an admin. for it. We created an “event” and want to invite all the FB “Fans” to it. When I try to add the business fans it only will pull my personal friend list. I need to access the fans list for this event we are hosting? Can anyone help? I have searched FB for hours now and this isn’t on the FAQ’s sections or in the help.

This is only partially open, as you will obviously have lots of contacts and several pages..IE 1 2 3 4 5 .. and this only selects the 9 contacts that are on the current page of contacts you are in. Once you enter the link in the URL u may just see every contact selected but if u go to the next page..the fallowing contacts are not selected. So not that helpful!!

This code WAS stunning (and I am still grateful). I say WAS, because I can’t get it to work any longer.
In Firefox, I get all the way to having all my Friends selected, click on the SEND button (whatever it actually says) and… freezes up. I’m on a Mac, so I get the beach ball from hell and have to force quit Firefox (Firefox not responding).
My “work around” was to use Safari. And that did work two or three times. NOW, Safari keeps “telling” me I’m NOT logged in— after I do the Invite All tap dance and click on the INVITE (or whatever) blue button. So, I do, log in, try it all again, and… nada.
Any ideas? I’d sure appreciate it. This is a great, Brilliant! little “ap” and I love it.

Am I missing something….because it seems that the java will only select those friends that are displayed at that time (9 friends)…with a friend list of 3K….this does not save much time.

I have successfully used this javascript many times to invite friends to Facebook events (over the past couple months) but just today (March 22 2010) it seemed to stop working for me.

When I run the script, Firefox simply hangs and then displays “Not Reponding”. I am using the latest version of Firefox (3.6.2) and Java 1.6.0.18 (the latest). All my pother Javascripts that I use when browsing still work fine.

If you are creating a new fan page, facebook will not allow you to post the java script… it automatically deletes your fan page.

This works actually, facebook will bug out sometimes. I’ve had the problem where it didn’t send invites out to all the people I’ve actually clicked before. Where I had actually sat down and clicked every single person and it only sent it out to 50 random people I clicked. Also, after you send the invites it will take FB a little bit of time to actually send the invites out. It will not do it right after you send the invites, works the same as clicking each and every person.
This saved a shit ton of time and it is amazing. Props for coming up with the script and people, just have a little patience with it. If it doesn’t work, its not the scripts problem it’s FB’s. Just try it again.

This works for me on accounts under 3,500. I have a few accounts maxed out at 5k. It always locks up the browser on those. Anyone else have this issue or have a work around please let me know. Happy hunting.

Does anyone know how to send messages out to all the guest on an event? I mean at the moment, once you hit over 5000 guests invites, it stops you from sending messages out to guests (by not having the message button).
I heard through the grapevine that there is a certain code for this, I am in desperate need of this code.

This works, but friends list has been split into several pages now. And even with using this link, i have to individually do each 70+ pages which still takes a while. Im not complaining because its quicker than doing each friend one by one, but is there a quicker way yet?

This really worked for me… i invited my 500 contacts to an event… and yes.. it appears like some ones havent been invited… but in 1 hour (more or less) them all were invited.

also i think the prob with the selecting the first 50 or so is a misunderstanding.. maybe dependant on how fast your computer is or how long you wait on the selection screen.. if you scroll down i found it does it ok, hope that helps

Hey Meg- Happens to me too… I think it happens when you have a lot of friends. I go into Google Chrome when I invite people to events now. It won’t crash in Chrome.

The “lock up” occurred in Firefox and it may have just been working.
I ran the script in Windows Explorer and it worked fine!
Except, later in the day my account was blocked : (…

Even though it is freezing your browser you have to be patient as that is just it selecting ll your friends, if you are using firefox it takes longer and will freeze your browser but will unfreeze on its own when it selects.
Lately for some reason though this link only works on fan pages, and not on groups any more
